Our history

Populate started as a conventional web development company specialising in bespoke LAMP projects primarily adding a technical service to a small number design agencies . The Populate platform began as an internal project created from a frustration trying to deploy projects using the available tools, initially Joomla and then Wordpress, Magento and Shopify and became central to all of our projects. Between 2008 and 2020 the platform slowly evolved while we continued to develop bespoke projects.

In 2020 we adapted the platform to allow the first external developers to create their own front ends and to edit their owwn template sets. While we focus on providing the infrastructure, administration tools and the server-side, we allow design agencies, web professionals and individuals to concentrate on the front-end and the touchy feely bits that they are so good at.

Because we are based around a small development team with intimate knowledge of every aspect of the platform there is a consistency to the approach, a deep rooted knowledge of any issues and an ability to extend the existing functionality in an integrated way that will be a welcome change if you are used to working with other platforms and the normal plugin based approach.
